● About
Why Little Moss?
Most children’s programs focus on staying tidy and coloring inside the lines. At Little Moss, we invite kids to do the opposite. Each Sunday, little ones dive into sound, movement, and art in spaces around the Bay Area.
Our workshops are cozy, playful, and designed for discovery, giving children the freedom to make a joyful mess, explore boldly, and try again. It’s this mix of gentle guidance and creative freedom that makes Little Moss special, and why families leave each week buzzing with laughter, art, and a deeper sense of community.
● Our Mission & Philosophy
Our Principles
●
Creativity Over Perfection
We celebrate big ideas, happy accidents, and the magic that comes from trying things out.
●
Making Made Accessible
We believe creativity should be accessible to all families, and we keep our workshops welcoming and inclusive.
●
Artists as Guides
Children learn alongside practicing artists who model curiosity, play, and the joy of a lifelong creative practice.
●
Process Over Product
We emphasize exploration and imagination over polished results, helping children find wonder in the act of making.
● Our Story
Our Founders
Little Moss was born from a love of art, nature, and community. Its founder, Xiao He, grew up surrounded by creativity and dreamed of a space where young children could experience that same freedom and joy. Xiao holds BFA in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and completed a Drawing Year at the Royal Drawing School in London. Her own artistic practice has been recognized internationally. She is the recipient of the 2025 Juror’s Award at the Berkeley Art Center and has recently awarded solo exhibitions at Reisig and Taylor Contemporary in Los Angeles. Drawing from her background in fine arts and education, Xiao brings a thoughtful, process-based approach to nurturing children’s creativity through sensory exploration and playful experimentation.
Today, Little Moss brings families together each Sunday across the San Francisco Bay Area, transforming parks, studios, and community spaces into playful workshops. Guided by a close-knit circle of artists and educators, children discover sound, color, and movement in ways that nurture curiosity, connection, and the confidence to create freely.
